STS Introduces New Printing Instructions for Residential Printing
With a goal of reducing the amount of wasteful printing on the STS network, STS has implemented STS Print Release Stations in the residential computing labs. As of 11/2/2009, all residential computing labs have been transitioned over to the new printing model.
An STS Print Release station is a designated computer that sits next to the printer. It serves the purpose of releasing print jobs when the student is ready to pick them up at the printer. Here's how it works:
- Students will set up a new printer for STS printing: STS Print
- When a student prints on the STS network, the print job is sent to STS Print, where it remains until it is released at the STS Print Release Station (if not released within 12 hours, the print job is automatically deleted)
- When the student is ready to release their print job, they may visit any STS Print Release Station in any of the STS Residential computing labs
- At the STS Print Release Station, the student will log in with their WUSTL KEY and WUSTL KEY Password
- A list of all the print jobs that have been sent by the student will be seen on the screen (students will only see their print jobs)
- To release the print job, click the "Print" button next to the document/print job to be printed
- To delete a job that is in the print queue, students may click "Cancel"
- When finished printing, students will click "Done"
- STS is not charging for printing this year nor implementing any printing quotas
It is very important that students set up the new printer: STS Print . Once labs are converted to the STS Print Release Stations, the old STS printer setups that may be on personal machines will no longer work. Students can set up the new STS Print at any time - it is not necessary to wait until the lab is converted.
