What is a Student Technology Coordinator? Who are the STC's ?
NTS-Student Technology Services (STS) and the Office of Residential Life, as part of Washington University’s mission to provide a supportive, educational, and self-exploratory campus environment through residential living are dedicated to the success of each student. The Technology Coordinator is a sophomore, junior, or senior level student, trained to work with students to enhance their academic and residential experience and help them successfully transition into and through Washington University. The primary role of the Technology Coordinator is focused on providing access to technology resources, information and training.
General Responsibilities
In order to foster the student’s success, the technology coordinator will facilitate the use of technology by:
- Assisting residential students with minor trouble-shooting and referral to appropriate technology resources
- Demonstrating a high level of customer service
- Developing communication mechanisms, such as email exchange, wikis, websites, posted signage, etc., – in concert with RCD’s and the STS Director -- to ensure timely dissemination of technology-related information
- Disseminating emergency information to students through a variety of means, as requested by the STS Director
- Supporting and facilitating RCD efforts
- Providing weekly activity written and verbal updates to the STS Director
- Monitoring and reporting on the condition of the labs located within the residential colleges, including keeping supplies loaded in the printers as needed
- Providing programs/training to the students of the residential college at least twice per semester, using ResLife staff ( RA’s, RCD’s, College Council, etc.) and STS staff as mentors for development (training can be done by teaming with other STC’s)
The Technology Coordinator will live in a designated residence hall or residential college.
Expectations
It is the expectation that the Student Technology Coordinator will:
- Attend and complete all orientation sessions specific to the STC role, as directed by the STS Director and required by the program
- Complete customer service training as required by the STS Director
- Complete communication training as required by the STS Director
- Complete specific technical training as may be required by the STS Director
- Participate in University orientation programs, including Move-In Day and Parent Receptions
- Participate in Residential College Events and monthly staff meetings as requested or when useful information needs to be distributed
- Meet with the STS Director as requested
- Attend STC group meetings as requested
- Serve as a conduit between residential students and STS
- Build relationships with the ResLife staff and STS
