Virus Protection:

You may use the University's Symantec Anti-Virus software (free to you).  If your computer comes with another antivirus software and you want to use the one we provide, you must first remove your other version before installing the University's software.  Feel free to download Symantec for Windows , Symantec for Windows Vista, or Symantec for Macintosh .

SpyBot

SpyBot Search and Destroy is an excellent tool that you can download and install from home.  This free tool is used to protect you from spyware, adware, hijackers, and other malicious software that may try to install on your machine without your knowledge. 

 Ad-Aware

Ad-Aware for Windows  is a free tool that blocks malware and spyware from being installed on your machine and stealing your private information.

Other Helpful Hints

• Turn on a firewall on your PC for extra protection

•  Make sure you use strong passwords so no one can get access to your computer
• Keep your Microsoft products updated so the latest threats are addressed
• If you use the Windows Operating System on your PC, you can automatically keep it updated so your operating system is protected.
• Once you arrive, make sure your computer is physically secured .  If you are bringing a laptop, you should bring a cable lock for it.
