The STaRS Program partners with hiring departments that provide authentic, experiential learning opportunities in technology. Besides increased technological competencies, students gain skills such as collaborating with co-workers, organizing work time effectively, and communicating successfully in an office setting. Students are mentored by staff in the hiring department, and staff supports their work projects so that mutual learning takes place.
In addition to the on-the-job training, STaRS offers sessions for its members and the general public. During the 2010 – 2011 school year, for example, STaRS offered training on the following topics: How to Build Your Own Computer, Key Security Strategies, Understanding the WashU Network, How to Give Effective Presentations, Photoshop, and How NOT to Break Your Computer.
STaRS Training Resources offers a wide variety of technical training overviews. These videos are provided to enhance professional and technical skill-sets.
