Job Description: The Student Web Designer will help with a multi-institutional collaborative project that seeks to develop a unified design plan that can span several related data-rich interfaces around a humanities text collection without requiring a common back end. The specifics of implementations will be less important than establishing a design direction to enable several initiatives to coordinate with each other and communicate that coordination to end users in an inviting way. There is an opportunity to help shape a visual identity for the project, and to contribute to the project’s understanding of the challenges of interaction design and user experience. The job may also include occasional advisory involvement with other HDW projects.

Qualifications:

experience with web design
experience with data visualization, user experience, and search
ability to understand the role of design in communicating a project vision
strong language skills
Basic HTML/XHTML/CSS knowledge
Ability to work well independently and as a member of team
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technical concepts
Ability to switch focus according to changing requirements
Excellent communication and organizational skills
A strong desire to learn
