Title: Web Development Intern
Department: Public Affairs
Salary: $10-$11/hr, commensurable with experience
Hours: 5-10 hours per week, 2-hour shifts, M-F 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Job Description: The Public Affairs Web Development Intern will assist in updating, coding standards compliant XHTML/CSS, and deploying WUSTL websites in this paid internship. The intern will learn about emerging technologies, web standards and best practices for web development.
As part of the professional development program of the Office of Public Affairs, each intern is required to attend one brown bag lunch presentation and complete two information interviews during the semester. All interns in the department will have assigned mentors to support them during their internship and in preparation for their professional careers.
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in updating wustl.edu
- Make content updates to static XHMTL client sites
- Assist in coding standards compliant XHTML/CSS template sites
- Assist browser testing and completing deployment checklists for new sites
- Work with Digital Communications team to ensure that sites accurately reflect content and design documents
- Research emerging technologies, industry trends and best practices for web development
Qualifications:
- Meet basic STaRS hiring criteria
- Knowledge of HTML/XHTML/CSS
- Understanding of web standards
- Ability to code semantic websites using non-WYSIWYG editor (ex. Coda, Text Wrangler)
- Familiarity with CMS systems (ex. Sharepoint, WordPress)
- Comfortable using Mac OS
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and seek clarification as needed
- Able to meet deadlines
- Curious about digital technology
- Willing to learn new skills and software
- Attention to detail
