Title: Student GIS Technical Assistant
Department: Olin Library – Research Data Services
Reports to: GIS Analyst/GIS Programmer
Hours/Salary: 10-20 hours per week — $10/hour

Job Description: The Student GIS Technical Assistant will work with the Geographic Information Systems team on spatial analysis and data visualization projects.  Projects may involve GIS analysis or data processing, web development, and/or the development of 3D immersive content and processing workflows to enable display and interaction in virtual and augmented reality display devices such as Microsoft Hololens.  Applicants will be expected to develop and document the workflows necessary to move content from various source formats into head-mounted display devices.  Additional tasks may include developing navigational controls and investigating other applications for these technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adjust efforts to address variable priorities and deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visual Studio, Unity 3D Pro, MS Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GIS concepts and ArcGIS
  • Interest in virtual and augmented realty applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Hololens, Oculus Rift, and/or HTC Vive
