Job Title: Student GIS Technical Student
Department: Olin Library – Research Data Services
Hours/pay rate: 10-20hrs/week, $10/hr

Job Description: 

The Student GIS Technical Assistant will work with the Geographic Information Systems team on data visualization projects to enable display and interaction with GIS datasets and results of spatial analysis.  Primary tasks will be development of 3D immersive content and processing workflows to enable data display and interaction in virtual and augmented reality display devices such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Microsoft Hololens.  Additional tasks include developing navigational controls, menu based controls to change source data and display parameters, investigating other applications for these technologies, and other duties as assigned.  Applicants will be expected to create accurate and descriptive documentation detailing the workflows necessary to move content from various source formats into head-mounted display devices.

Minimum Qualifications:
Proficient with Unity 3D Pro, Python, Microsoft Visual Studio, MS Office
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to adjust efforts to address variable priorities and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with using Unity 3D Pro to develop immersive applications
Familiarity with GIS concepts and ArcGIS
Interest in developing virtual and augmented realty applications
Experience with Microsoft Hololens, Oculus Rift, and/or HTC Vive

Meet basic STaRS hiring criteria: full time student with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA in good academic and judicial standing
