Reports to: Information Security Manager
Duration: Spring 2020 (up to 20hrs/week) & Summer 2020  (20-40hrs/week)
Job Description:
this remote work position will be assisting the Information Security Office in securing the Washington University network

Preferred Qualifications:

  • familiar with Zeek
  • Experience with a programming language like Perl or Python – preferred
  • Understanding of networking, TCP/IP, and DNS is preferred
  • Computer Science sophomore or junior familiar with scripting

General Responsibilities: The student worker will assist the Information Security Manager in the following areas:

  • Monitor network traffic and security sensors for malicious infections
  • Monitor abuse messages for outside security complaints
  • Identify and contain threats and vulnerabilities to the campus network
  • Do vulnerability and malware analysis
  • Evaluate and test emergent security technologies
  • Maintain and contribute to the Information Security Office website
  • Develop and maintain Information Security Office software systems and servers
  • Write and maintain Information Security Office documentation
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic system administration experience of Linux-based operating systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be highly motivated to learn, research, and implement new computer security technologies
  • Full time student with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA in good academic and judicial standing – rising sophomore or upperclassmen
